On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, Douglas Durrett quietly ascended into the arms of our Heavenly Father. Doug will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him. He was a loyal and loving son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He worked hard and loved harder. Doug enjoyed nothing more than doting on his loved ones, including the family pets. He was a man who could tell it to you straight forward, a now commonly lost art. He could tell a childhood story in a way that had you feeling like you were part of the memory yourself. He lived to laugh. The endless amount of love and laughter that poured out of such an amazing soul will be forever missed by many.

Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Moody officiating.

Doug was born December 18, 1950 in Houston, Texas to Daryl Wendell and Ethel Jewel (Jones) Durrett. He was the Warehouse Manager of Special Programs at L-3 Technology for over 30 years. He married Joanne on May 3, 1997 .

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Durrett; his mother, Ethel Durrett Nichols; his children, Jennifer Prazak and husband, Raymond, Scott Durrett, Jeff Mohlman and wife Danie and Brandi Scherrer and husband, Arthur; his siblings, Keith Durrett and wife, Cheryl, Judy Pardue and Terry Durrett and wife, Pam; his mother-in-law, Judith Mefford and husband, Kenneth; his grandchildren, Callie Allday, Jeff Allday, Chris Durrett, Caleb Durrett, Casey Floyd, Colleen Floyd, Catie Ogle, Lance Ogle, Colby Thomas, Everett Mohlman and Mason Scherrer; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Central Texas, 2032 Circle Rd., Waco, Texas, 76711

My memories of Doug which go back to high school, then being neighbors and starting our families on Ponder Street in Lone Star, to becoming Facebook friends in our retirement years all include lots of smiles and laughter. That is a special trait he had.

I meet Doug due to my adopted brother, Danny Thomas. He was a good friend and treated me well. We had just reconnected last year and I had been looking forward to seeing him next month. I will miss his sense of humor and the love he had inside in spite of the hard countenance he put up as a facade.

I pray that the Lord will wrap your family in his loving embrace and provide them only the comfort that he can provide during this time of mourning. You were a true friend that will live forever in the hearts of those who knew you. Rest in peace my friend and I will see you again someday and hear the stories of the home made Oreo cookies, that your mom made just for you. God bless you until we meet again on the other side!!!
