Johnny E. Mazanec, 88 of Bellmead passed away Monday,
October 30th at Providence Hospice Place surrounded by his loving
family. A rosary will be recited
Thursday, November 2nd at 6:30pm at Bellmead Funeral Home, with visitation to
follow until 8:30pm. Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 3 at 10:30am at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Bellmead with the Rev. Albert Ruiz and Rev. Timothy Vaverek
co-celebrating. Burial will follow at
St. Mary’s Cemetery in West.
Mr. Mazanec was born September 13, 1929 in Waco, the son of
John F. and Julie Hlavaty Mazanec. His
father passed away when he was only 8 months old.
Johnny graduated from LaVega High School in 1947. He graduated from 4C Business College,
attended McLennan Community College and Baylor University.
Johnny married the love of his life that he met on the dance
floor, Molly Vanzura Mazanec on June 14, 1951.
They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They have been members of St. Joseph Catholic
Church since 1954. He served as church
Usher and Eucharist Minister, served on the Church Financial Committee,
faithfully attended Eucharist Adoration with his wife at St. Joseph and
volunteered as outside monitor for CCD classes for 20 years. He was instrumental in the annual church
picnic functions and the Knights of Columbus picnic fundraisers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus
Council 7202 being a 3rd and 4th degree Knight, attaining
lifetime membership. They received the
Lumen Gentium award from the Austin Diocese in 2015.
Johnny worked 10 years at William Cameron Company and the
U.S. Postal Service for 34 years until his retirement. He then worked part time with Knights of
Columbus Insurance for 2 years and Valet parking at Hillcrest Medical
Tower. He served on the Postal Employees
Credit Union Board of Directors for 25 years and the City of Bellmead Zoning
Commission for 15 years.
Johnny enjoyed water skiing, boating, trot lining, fishing,
polka music, dancing (he and his wife were members of the POLKA Club of
America), going to casinos, traveling in their recreational vehicle visiting
many states coast to coast. He enjoyed
helping his family achieve their goals.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, daughter Diane Buxkemper and
husband Melvin of Elm Mott, son Steven Mazanec of Garland, grandchildren
Phillip Buxkemper and wife Ruby of Axtell and Allison Buxkemper and boyfriend
Eric Larson of Killeen, Tx. and several cousins.

The family wishes to thank the following individuals for
their heartfelt generosity and constant loving care: Nurses at Providence Hospital 4 North
especially Taylor, Chloe, Jenni, Heather and Callie, Dr. White in Radiology,
Dr. Elwell, Margie and the Staff at Providence Hospice Place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph
Catholic Church building fund, St. Mary’s Cemetery Association in West, St.
Jude, or a charity of your choice.
