Martha Lucy Staley Johnson went to her Heavenly home on March 4, 2024. She was born in Waco on April 18, 1939. She was born to parents, Beulah and John Staley and the oldest child of her family. She attended school at Alta Vista and transferred to La Vega in the 5th grade. She graduated with the Class of 1957. She always knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. She worked hard putting herself through college at Baylor University. During this time, she met the love of her life, Walter Johnson while working at Oliver Goldsmith. She graduated from Baylor University in 1961 with Bachelors Degree in Science with a Major in English and Minor in Spanish. She moved to Victoria, Texas where she began her teaching career but quickly moved back to Waco where she taught at her Alma Mater, La Vega High School from 1961-1992. During those thirty one years of teaching, she touched and influenced many lives of her students. She married Walter Johnson on December 22, 1961 and they have one lovely daughter, Jennifer Michele. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Beulah Staley, grandparents, sister, Macie Margaret Staley Northrup, and husband, Walter Robert Johnson. She is survived by sister, Mary Alice Staley Smith and husband Joe, sister, Marlene Karen Staley Terry and husband Joe Ed, and brother, John Mark Staley and Michelle, and daughter Jennifer Michele Johnson. She has many wonderful nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who cherish their Aunt Marty. Martha had strong faith and exemplified the meaning of living a Christian life in helping others. Heaven has truly gained such a beautiful, kind, intelligent lady who deserves all the blessings God has bestowed for her now on her new journey in eternity. We will always remember and cherish her memory in our hearts. Thank you for a life well lived, Mother. Special thanks to all those who touched her life including Gentiva Hospice nurses and aides who were our angels in her last days and made this transition more comforting. Rest in peace, Martha 'till we all meet again one day.

So sorry to hear this. I had Mrs. Johnson as my Spanish teacher for two years, Freshman & Sophomore year. I didn't retain a lot of Spanish but I have always remembered Mrs. Johnson. She was a nice lady and a great teacher. LaVega Class Of 92'. RIP Mrs. Johnson.
